Physical Therapy

Manual Physical Therapy

Manual therapy is a specialized hands-on approach to treat musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions. We use our hands or tools to manipulate, mobilize or massage the affected soft tissue. These techniques aim to improve joint mobility, alleviate pain, enhance tissue flexibility, reduce muscle tension and promote overall healing.

Manual therapy can encompass a range of techniques, including joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization and myofascial release, depending on the specific needs of the patient and the condition being treated. Manual therapy is one technique that compliments a larger, comprehensive treatment plan.

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

We can use tools to effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. The ergonomic design of these instruments provides the clinician with the ability to locate restrictions, treat the affected area with the appropriate amount of pressure, and to treat the specific direction of restriction. Studies have also shown clinical benefits of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, including improvements in range of motion, strength and pain perception following treatment.

Blood Flow Restriction Training

We offer blood flow restriction therapy or training to help patients make greater strength gains in their arms and legs while lifting lighter loads. The bands are inflated to individualized pressures prescribed by our clinical guidelines. Once the safe pressures have been established by the clinician, the patient will be put through a series of individualized exercises.

Simple, low-load exercises produce profound muscle “burn” comparable to intense anaerobic training. This strong fatigue triggers the body to release hormones, such as human growth hormone. This then produces muscle hypertrophy (an increase of muscle cells and strength) comparable to heavy exercise or traditional weight lifting. The hormones circulating in the bloodstream benefit all areas of the body that are working, thereby creating a systemic benefit.
